Start Tracker (Student)

Learn how to create a new Student Tracker for collecting daily behavior data, Check-In/Check-Out ratings, and progress monitoring.

Student Tracker is designed to monitor an individual student's behavior, progress, and implementation over time.

Student Trackers can be created in one of two ways:

  1. Start from a Preset to quickly build a Tracker using a preconfigured template.
  2. Build a Custom Tracker to create your own Behavior Domains, scoring rubric, and Measurement Periods (Intervals).

Once either option is completed, both workflows continue on the Student Tracker screen, where the Tracker can be further customized, data can be entered, and graphs can be viewed.

Step 1: Choose How to Build Your Tracker

Option A: Start from a Preset

Select one of the available Presets to quickly create a Tracker using preconfigured:

  • Behavior Domains
  • Rating Scale descriptions
  • Classes/Intervals (Measurement Periods)

After selecting a Preset, click Start Tracker to advance to the Student Tracker screen and apply any relevant adjustments. Skip to Step 2: Configure the Student Tracker)

Option B: Build a Custom Tracker

Complete the following fields to build a custom Tracker.

Tracker Name

Enter a name for the Tracker. This field is required.

Scoring Setup

Configure the Tracker scoring by selecting:

  • Number of Rating Levels (1–5)
  • Starting Value (0 or 1)

The Point Range Preview displays how the scoring scale will appear on the scorecard.

Behavior Domains

Create one or more Behavior Domains by entering:

  • A Behavior Domain label
  • A description for each point value within the scoring rubric

Click Add Another Domain to create additional Behavior Domains.

Measurement Periods (Intervals)

Label one or more Measurement Periods, displayed as Classes/Intervals on the scorecard and graphs.

Click Add Another Interval to create additional Measurement Periods.

When setup is complete, click Start Tracker to open the Student Tracker screen.

Click Cancel to discard changes and return to the student's file.

Step 2: Configure the Student Tracker

Once the Tracker has been created, you can continue customizing it from the Student Tracker screen before entering data.

General Settings

  • Change the Tracker name.
  • Select a different Preset.
  • Update the Rating Levels or Starting Value.

Note: Increasing the number of Rating Levels adds a new highest point value with blank rating descriptions. Reducing the number of Rating Levels permanently removes the highest point value and its descriptions.

Click Update to apply scoring changes.

Behavior Domains

Add, remove, hide, reorder, or edit Behavior Domains and scoring descriptions.

Measurement Periods (Intervals)

Add, remove, hide, reorder, or edit Measurement Periods.

Target Behaviors (Optional)

Click Add Target Behaviors to monitor the frequency of one or more Target Behaviors across Measurement Periods.

Target Behavior frequency data will be graphed and displayed with daily averages.

Bonus Points (Optional)

Add Bonus Points to recognize additional goals or positive behaviors.

Bonus Points are displayed on the scorecard but are not included in Behavior Domain scoring or graph calculations.

Saving Changes

Unless a Save button is provided (such as when editing a Behavior Domain title or scoring description), changes are automatically saved.

When setup is complete, use the Tracker Actions menu to:

  • Enter Data
  • Download a blank PDF scorecard

Editing a Tracker After Data Has Been Entered

Once data has been collected, settings that would affect the accuracy of existing data cannot be edited or removed.

Examples include:

  • Behavior Domains
  • Scoring descriptions
  • Measurement Periods (Intervals)

Instead, click Hide to remove these items from future data collection while preserving historical data and graphs.

New Behavior Domains, Measurement Periods, and Target Behaviors can still be added before the next data entry.

Tip: If you are just getting started and have minimal existing data, you may choose to delete each saved Pointsheet (after retaining a screenshot or copy, if needed). Once all Pointsheets have been deleted, you can fully edit the Student Tracker before continuing data collection.

Step 3: Enter Data

Click Enter Data from the Behavior Supports, Data & Graphs, or Tracker Actions menu.

Create a Pointsheet

Select a date and click Create New Pointsheet.

Score Behavior Domains

Enter a rating for each Behavior Domain during each Measurement Period.

Scores can be selected from the pick list or entered using the keyboard.

If data was not collected during a Measurement Period (for example, the student was absent), leave the score as N/A. Daily totals and percentages will automatically adjust.

Optional: Click Max Points to populate all Behavior Domain scores with the highest rating, or Min Points to populate all scores with the lowest rating. Individual scores can then be adjusted as needed.

Target Behaviors

If Target Behaviors are being tracked, enter the frequency for each Measurement Period.

Tip: Enter 0 when the behavior did not occur to ensure accurate graphing.

Comments (Optional)

Add comments or notes for the school day.

Click Save to save your data and continue editing, or Save + New to save the current entry and begin a new Pointsheet by selecting a different date.

The Pointsheet Actions menu provides several options for managing and sharing Tracker data:

  • Email Pointsheet – Sends a PDF copy of the completed Pointsheet to all Email Contacts listed in the student's file. See Student Information article for instructions on adding Email Contacts.
  • Email Current Graph – Sends the currently displayed graph as a PDF attachment to all Email Contacts listed in the student's file.
  • Download PDF – View or print a PDF copy of the completed Pointsheet.
  • Graph – Display automatically generated graphs of the student's Tracker data.
  • Delete – Permanently delete the Pointsheet for the selected date.
  • Reset – Clear all unsaved data on the current Pointsheet and reload the page to display any updates made to the Student Tracker since the Pointsheet was created.
    • Example: A teacher begins a Pointsheet, then returns to the Student Tracker to add a new Behavior Domain. When the teacher returns to that day's Pointsheet, the new Behavior Domain will appear but cannot be scored until Reset is selected
    • Warning: Reset clears any unsaved scores or comments on the current Pointsheet. If data has already been entered, save the Pointsheet or retain a screenshot before resetting.

Note: When multiple staff members enter data throughout the day, previously saved data will automatically appear when the next staff member opens that day's Pointsheet.

See Daily Data Entry by Multiple Staff & Class Periods for additional guidance.

Step 4: View Graphs

Click Graph from the Pointsheet, Behavior Supports, or Data & Graphs.

Graphs are automatically generated from saved data.

Use the Student Graphs panel to customize:

  • Date range
  • Total Points graph
  • Trend Lines
  • Behavior Domains
  • Target Behaviors
  • Phase Lines
  • Daily, Weekly, or Monthly averages

Click Update to refresh the graph.

Click Download Graph to view or print the current graph.

Graph Types

Available graphs include:

  • Behavior Domain averages
  • Total Points (optional)
  • Target Behavior frequency (if tracked)
  • Interval Chart

Tip: The Interval Chart is a valuable tool for identifying patterns across classes or times of day. It can help teams recognize when additional supports may be needed and guide problem-solving discussions.

Phase Lines

Use Phase Lines to identify important events or changes that may influence behavior.

Examples include:

  • Beginning or ending baseline
  • BIP implementation
  • Intervention changes
  • Medication changes
  • Classroom or placement changes

Data History

The Data History table displays:

  • Date
  • Comments
  • Last Modified
  • Modified By
  • Possible Points
  • Earned Points
  • Percent Earned

Click any Date to view or edit the saved Pointsheet.

Click Download CSV Data to export all Tracker data.

The bottom of the table displays the total number of data collections, along with the oldest and newest entries. This information can be helpful when reviewing long-term progress.
