Start FBA with BIP

Learn how to begin a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) with Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) for students requiring a comprehensive assessment and intervention process.

To begin a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) with Behavior Intervention Plan (BIP) for a student:

  1. From the Navigation Menu, open Student Supports and select a student, or use the student search field to locate a student and click the blue arrow to open the student's file.
  2. Within the student's file, open the Student Actions menu and select Start FBA with BIP.
  3. In the Basic Info section, enter a Report Name and click Save.
  4. Use the navigation panel on the left to complete the assessment and behavior planning process.

A Report Name must be entered and Saved before completing the remaining sections of the assessment.

At least one Target Behavior must also be selected and saved before completing the remaining FBA components, including Antecedents, Behavior Chain, Consequences, and Hypothesized Function(s), or progressing to the BIP.

Once the FBA has been drafted, use the navigation panel to select the BIP tab and complete the behavior plan, including Setting Event Strategies, Prevention Strategies, Replacement Behaviors, and Response Strategies.

Tip: While the BIP can be completed before every FBA section is finished, drafting the FBA first is recommended. Assessment Highlights displayed throughout the BIP summarize completed assessment information to help guide the selection of context-specific, function-based intervention strategies that align with the assessment findings.

Note: Sections left blank will not appear in the PDF report.

Save

Click Save throughout FBA/BIP development to save your selections and text. Save frequently, especially before leaving the page or exiting Behavior Advantage.

If you attempt to navigate away with unsaved changes, your browser will display a confirmation message, allowing you to Cancel and save your work or Leave the page and discard any unsaved changes.

Print/View

Click Print/View to generate PDF reports.

While viewing the FBA tab, available reports include:

  • FBA Report

While viewing the BIP tab, available reports include:

  • FBA + BIP Report
  • BIP Report
  • Implementation Checklist

These are the same report options available from the student's Behavior Supports folder.

Lock

Click Lock to prevent further edits from being saved to the FBA/BIP. While locked, the FBA/BIP becomes read-only for all staff members who have access to the student.

To make additional changes, click Unlock. Only the staff member who locked the FBA/BIP can unlock it.
