FACTS for Students
The student's own perspective, captured through the same trusted framework.
The FACTS for Students is a brief, semi-structured interview conducted directly with the student, using the same structure as the staff FACTS. It's designed to surface how the student experiences the routines and situations where problem behavior occurs, information that adult report alone can sometimes miss.
Like the staff version, the interview moves through two parts:
- Part A: Routines Analysis - has the student identify which routines and situations tend to go well, and which don't
- Part B: Functional Behavior Assessment - walks the student through what happens right before the behavior, what the behavior looks like from their point of view, and what happens afterward
The FACTS for Students is most powerful when paired with the staff FACTS - together, they give the team both the adult and student perspective on the same routines, which often surfaces details or discrepancies worth exploring further. It typically takes 10–15 minutes and works best with students who can reflect on and communicate about their own behavior.
