Create Frequency & Duration Data Tool
Learn how to create a Frequency or Duration Data Tool to monitor behavior occurrence, duration, latency, or interval data over time.
Create a New Frequency/Duration Data Tool
From a student’s Data & Graphs screen, Click Create New Frequency/Duration Data Tool.
Graph Description
Enter a name for the data tool. This field is required.
Data Targets
Select one or more behaviors to monitor, including:
- Challenging Behaviors to decrease
- Replacement Behaviors to increase
Or, click Add Custom Data Target to create your own behavior label.
Tip: Keep behavior labels brief. Operational definitions should be documented elsewhere, as long labels may not fully display on the PDF data sheet or graph legend.
Data Collection Type
For each Data Target, select one of the following:
- Frequency Only – Records the number of occurrences.
- Frequency and Duration – Records both the number of occurrences and the length of each occurrence.
Click Save to create the data tool.
Printable Data Sheet (Optional)
Click Data Form PDF to view or print a data sheet that provides space to collect up to five days of data for later entry into Behavior Advantage.
Entering Data
Click Enter Data to record data for one or more dates.
For each entry, record:
- Date
- Comments (optional)
- Frequency (total number of occurrences)
- Duration (start and stop times for each occurrence, when applicable)
Use the calendar and clock icons to select dates and times.
Tip: Verify that AM/PM is selected correctly. If the AM/PM selector is hidden, reduce your browser zoom level.
To remove a duration entry, click the red Trash icon.
Click Save to continue editing, or Save + New to save the current entry and begin a new one.
Viewing Data and Graphs
To review existing data:
- Click the Data Tool Name to view the setup page and Data History.
- Click Graph to display automatically generated graphs of saved data.
Graph Features
The graph displays:
- A line graph showing frequency by date.
- A bar graph showing total duration by date.
- A legend displaying each Data Target and its daily average.
Use the Graph Options panel to:
- Select Data Targets.
- Display Frequency, Duration, or both.
- Show or hide Trend lines.
- Customize the date range.
- Add or manage Phase Lines.
Phase Lines
Phase Lines help identify important events or changes that may influence behavior.
Examples include:
- Beginning or ending baseline.
- BIP implementation.
- Intervention changes.
- Medication changes.
- Classroom or placement changes.
Click Phase Lines + to add one or more Phase Lines, then click Update to refresh the graph.
Click Download Graph to view or print the graph as displayed.
Data History
The Data History table displays the Date, Comments, and Last Modified date for each saved entry.
Click any Date to view or edit the detailed data collected for that entry.
